While Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is believed to be Chelsea’s main transfer target this summer, the Blues see Romelu Lukaku as a cheaper alternative.
Chelsea are looking at other alternatives with Borussia Dortmund demanding £154million for Haaland.
According to Italian media outlet Corriere Dello Sport via Daily Express, Chelsea will have to pay a club record £102million to sign Lukaku.
While Lukaku’s fee is significantly lower to that of Haaland, its still a huge amount to pay for just one player after the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on football clubs.
With a £52m difference in price between the two forwards, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia will go all out to pursue a move for top target Haaland with the knowledge that Lukaku, one of the club’s alternative options, is also likely to command a club-record transfer fee.
Lukaku has been firing on all cylinders for Inter Milan this season, chipping in with 19 goals and seven assists to help put Antonio Conte’s side into a strong position to claim their first Scudetto for 11 years.
