Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel deploys a three at the back system that depends on fullbacks to give the team width.

At the start of his job, Marcos Alonso was brilliant in the left wing-back position, ahead of £50m summer signing Ben Chilwell.

However, Chilwell has gone on to prove himself in the course of the campaign, and is back to taking his place in the squad.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid, former Chelsea forward Chris Sutton has revealed that it’s important for Ben Chilwell to start against the Spanish giants.

Sutton told the Daily Mail: “Who Tuchel starts as his wing backs will be key. Liverpool tried to use Sadio Mane to target the left-hand side in their second leg.

“Were it not for some slack finishing from Mohamed Salah, they might have made that clash more of a contest. I would use Ben Chilwell at left wing back, because of his speed.”
