Thomas Tuchel’s unbeaten start to his Chelsea managerial career came to an end on Saturday following the 5-2 defeat to West Brom.
Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton believes Tuchel was guilty of taking Sam Allardyce’s team too lightly and based his team selection on the forthcoming Champions League quarter-final first leg tie against Porto.
Sutton told BT Sport: “I think Thomas Tuchel was guilty of taking West Brom too lightly. The likes of Christensen and Rudiger were on the bench, players who have played very well under him.
“We know they have a strong squad but was he looking forward to the game in midweek in the Champions League? I think so.
“Credit to West Brom though. they really took the game to Chelsea. They’ve been so watertight under Thomas Tuchel but they just fell to pieces and it’s a worry.
“I actually thought the run they were on they were a certainty for the top four but not anymore. Who could’ve predicted that result today?
“It’s a worry for Chelsea now and if you’re Spurs, West Ham or Liverpool that result gives you great hope.”
