Former Manchester City star Micah Richards has been left in awe of the capabilities of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.
Mount had a breakthrough campaign last season where he featured in 54 games for the Blues, the most of any Chelsea player last term.
This season, Mount has continued to progress, and is one of the first names on the sheet for both club and country.
Micah Richards had in the past hailed Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and Leicester City’s James Maddison as better options than Mount, but he now rates Mount high, following his performance for England during the international break.
“It was an encouraging international break for England, one that enabled me to see Mason Mount in a completely different light,” Richards told the Daily Mail.
“My initial view of the Chelsea midfielder was that he worked hard and was someone who could put in a nice cross but I didn’t see him as an England regular.
“You all know my view on Jack Grealish and I also hold James Maddison in high regard but Mount is absolutely in the same conversation as them now.
“It’s been a pleasant surprise to see him take such positive steps forward and I expect there will be much more to come.”
