The European Super League only lasted 48 hours, as the 12 founding members made the decision to form the breakaway league on Sunday. However, on Tuesday evening, the Premier League’s Big Six clubs have already decided to withdraw from the ESL.
Chelsea were one of the first clubs to withdraw from the ESL, and the club released an official statement on Tuesday confirming its decision.
Chelsea FC released a statement, thus: “Having joined the group late last week, we have now had time to consider the matter fully and have decided that our continued participation in these plans would not be in the best interests of the Club, our supporters or the wider football community.”
Players and staff had been left in the dark over the club’s decision until Sunday when an official decision was made, but most players didn’t deem it a good project to be part of, especially with UEFA threatening to ban them from international games.
According to reports, the senior players are happy with Roman Abramovich’s decision to pull Chelsea out of the breakaway league.
According to the Independent, Chelsea players are ‘relieved’ by the news that the club have pulled out of the Super League
The Chelsea players are glad that the issue of the European Super League is over and they can now focus on the games ahead without any threat or unnecessary distraction.
