Chelsea star Timo Werner missed a sitter from 8-yards as Germany suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat to North Macedonia in a World Cup qualifying game on Wednesday night.
With the scores at 1-1 and 70 minutes gone, Werner was presented with the easiest of chances just inside the box, but he failed to find the back of the net, and Germany were punished 15 minutes later for the miss, as Eljif Elmas scored a late goal to upset the home team in Duisburg.
Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan, showed sympathy towards the Chelsea striker over his miss, as he admitted that the 25-year-old was indeed keen on scoring.
“I’m sorry for Timo,” said the Manchester City midfielder. “He’s the one who wants to score the most.
“We have no choice but to continue. We all know that such a defeat shouldn’t happen to us.
“That is not our right. It cannot be explained either. But that’s the way it is, we have to accept that.”
