It was Frank Lampard who gave Mason Mount the breakthrough in his career at Chelsea. The Chelsea boss had worked with Mount during their time at Derby County.

Mount was Chelsea’s most featured player last season, and many suggested that it wasn’t on merit. Mocking names like ‘Lampard’s son’ and ‘Lampard’s pet’ filled the Internet, all in reference of Mount.

However, Mount has now proven to be his own man under Thomas Tuchel, and Arsenal legend Ian Wright had hailed his character strength, as he revealed that he’s no longer seen as being favoured in the Chelsea team, as he has now proven himself under Tuchel as well.

“Mason Mount, he’s got unique attributes with his defensive and attacking sides of the game,” Wright said in Premier League Productions’ Kelly and Wrighty Show.

“[He’s] creative in everything that he does.

“There’s no coincidence that people are kind of done with the ‘teacher’s pet’ thing with him and Gareth [Southgate] and Frank [Lampard], now Tuchel is picking him as well.

“I like the way he just went through that phase, just continually doing what he has done which is to play football the best he can, doing what the managers want for him to do.

“[He keeps] scoring goals, creating goals, working hard for the team.

“He is the mainstay for England, the mainstay for Chelsea now — somebody with an attitude and dedication to what he’s doing is first class.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
