It was a good win for Chelsea at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, but it wasn’t an easy game nevertheless. Porto made sure they made Chelsea sweat it out, especially in the first half, but the win was well deserved as goals from Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell settled the victory.

See the player ratings below

Mendy: Had a good game as it was quite a busy night for him. Made a good number of saves and was pretty confident in goal. Denied Pepe’s header from going in and also made a save from Moussa Marega shot. 8/10

Azpilicueta: Made one vital block to prevent a shot from going in, but could also has easily given Porto a soft penalty kick. Was solid at the back, although his passing out at times wasn’t up to standard. 7/10

Christensen: Didn’t start the game brightly as some of his long balls forward were very poor. He grew into the game and did a decent job. 7/10

Rudiger: Solid for most part of the game, as the German continued his fine form. Did his job without fuss. 7.5/10

Reece James: Very dogged in his defending and seemed to enjoy his battle against Diaz. Went forward pretty well and got into good positions but Chelsea lacked presence in the box. 7/10

Chilwell: Beside his goal, the England international had a good game. He worked really hard and was put to test in this game. He seemed to enjoy the physical nature of the game but also put in a good show. 8/10

Jorginho: His lack of energy was evident in the first half at times, but it was his pass to Mason Mount in the first half that led to the goal. Struggled to dominate the game in the first half, but became more composed with the ball in the second period. 7/10

Kovacic: Continued his fine form and seemed to have formed a good relationship with Jorginho in the middle of park. Worked hard and kept the ball very well. 7.5

Mount: He stepped up for the team when it mattered most. His turn and shot for the goal was indeed a brilliant one and he also worked hard for the team. 8.5

Werner: Cut a frustrated figure almost all through the game as he lacked service from the midfield players. No impact on the game. 5/10

Kai Havertz: The false nine role didn’t work for him this time. Looked off the pace and was below par for most of the game. 4/10

Subs

Pulisic: Looked dangerous after coming on for Werner with 65 minutes gone. Hit the bar and worried Porto with his runs. 6/10

Giroud: Came on for Werner and seemed to hold up play very well. Lacked service from the middle of the park. 6/10

Thiago Silva: His introduction to the game late on, helped the team maintain composure. 6/10

Kante: Brought on to protect the lead and he did just that. Was involved in one brilliant attacking move that could have led to a goal. 6/10

Emerson: Very late sub for Kovacic.

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
