It wasn’t the easiest of games at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Wednesday night, as Porto made Chelsea work hard for a 2-0 victory.

The Portuguese giants started the game the better of the two sides, and they were very physical and hard with their pressing. It was difficult for Chelsea to dominate play and passing out from the back was very difficult as well.

A Mason Mount goal on the 32 minute mark helped Chelsea’s confidence and the Blues dominated play from then on.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was frustrated with his team’s play at certain times in the first half, but he was pleased with the overall performance at the end of the game, and also admitted that his team had to suffer to get this victory.

“The result is excellent for us,” said Tuchel shortly after the final whistle in Spain. “It was a tough match against a very strong Porto side. They are hard to play against, they are a proud club and an emotional team that fight hard.

“There were moments where we suffered but this is to be expected because the circumstances are very different. This is a Champions League quarter-final and you have to suffer at times but there were also some moments in the game where we were excellent.

“It was important to bounce back from the last match. We’ve had some excellent results together but we needed to show that we can improve from the defeat to West Brom. I was really pleased with the performance and also with the clean sheet from the guys, which is very important.”
