Chelsea and Real Madrid will face each other over two legs in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
For Chelsea, it’s the first time since 2014 that the Blues have reached this stage of the competition.
Reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League is a huge feat for Chelsea this season, especially, having struggled at some point this season before the sacking of former boss Frank Lampard.
Chelsea right wing-back Reece James has revealed his surprise ahead of facing Madrid in the semi-finals, admitting that the team has surpassed expectations.
On booking a semi-final date with 13-time winners Real Madrid, Reece James told the club’s official website: “The season started off a bit strange.
“If you’d said we would have been here at the start of the season then we probably wouldn’t have believed you, but it just shows what’s possible with hard work, everyone getting their heads down and working as a team.
“When you come to the later stages of competitions, you know you’re going to come up against top-class teams. We need to be ready and at our best right from the start.”
