Billy Gilmour broke into the Chelsea first team last season under Frank Lampard, and put in some commanding displays, including two man of the match performances against Liverpool and Everton.
The lock down last season and injury cut short Gilmour’s progress at the club, and his game time this season has dropped further since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel.
However, Gilmour is still touted as one of the stars of the future, and former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, has hailed the youngster as one of the emerging Scottish players to watch out for.
“He’s another young kid who is emerging,” he said, speaking to the official You Tube channel of the Scotland national team ahead of this summer’s European Championship.
“I saw him play for Chelsea in one of the games towards the start of the season, and he did really well.
“He got an injury that held him back a bit, but he is an emerging player there is no doubt about that, and that is good to see young players like him coming through and the quality of players in England. We are blessed with some good young players coming through.”
