Chelsea have had many great midfield players over the years, but the impact of Mateo Kovacic is one that has won over the Blues fans of late.
The Croatian was Chelsea’s Player of the Year last season under Frank Lampard, as he stepped up his game from the average performances we often saw under Maurizio Sarri.
Under Lampard, a key was unlocked as Kovacic got more freedom and a new part of his game was unleashed. His ball carrying skills, confidence and ability to beat the press have reached remarkable heights, and if Chelsea go on to win the Champions League this season, Kovacic will be one of the best players to have helped achieved the feat.
Signed up for £40m from Real Madrid who were keen to offload him, Kovacic has grown into a class of his own, and we’re sure that the Los Blancos will be regretting that move.
After another fine display against Porto, Chelsea fans have since been praising the midfield star, and the 26-year-old has maintained a very high level of consistency this season. Beside his offensive game, his work rate is incredibly high and he’s not afraid to commit himself to tackles.
Against Porto, Kovacic was a class act, and Chelsea fans have since been singing his praise.
