Kurt Zouma and Olivier Giroud were called up to the French national team on international duty, as well as N’Golo Kante, who had since returned due to injury.
Zouma and Giroud have returned and are back with the rest of the squad. But Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel may not be looking in their direction when making his team sheet for Saturday’s game against West Brom.
With Chelsea having an early kick-off at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, Tuchel has revealed that he will select players who are well rested from their trips to their respective country’s games.
“Oli Giroud and Kurt Zouma for example, they had a game with five hours time difference and they took several flights to arrive back in the middle of the night in London, so this is clearly not the best preparation for a Saturday match at 12.30,” Tuchel explained.
“But we don’t break our heads too much about it, it is clear when you sign for a club like Chelsea that you have to adapt to situations like this, that you have to find solutions.
“We had very good training sessions today and we will have the team together today in the evening for dinner and it is important that we show in these moments that we come together, because it is absolutely necessary to refocus for tomorrow as it is a big game ahead.”
