Former Southampton and Republic of Ireland forward David Connolly is surprised Tammy Abraham has barely played under Thomas Tuchel despite Timo Werner’s poor form.
Connolly was surprised by Tuchel’s decision to leave the England international out of the Blues’ matchday squad for Saturday’s shock 5-2 defeat against West Brom.
Abraham has started just three Premier League matches since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in January.
Connolly told talkSPORT: “Tammy would certainly want to be playing, that’s for sure.
“It’s not as if Timo Werner is ripping it up at this moment in time. He really isn’t. [Olivier] Giroud is in and out of the team.
“Despite those lack of goals, to still not get on the bench, a player of Tammy’s ability, is a real surprise.”
