Chelsea will face Porto in the first leg of the quarter-final Champions League clash at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Wednesday night.
Chelsea will host the second leg at Stamford Bridge in a week’s time, but Thomas Tuchel stand the risk of losing two key players for the second leg clash.
Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech are at risk of a suspension if they pick up a yellow card tonight, having already accumulated yellow cards from the previous clash.
Last season, the UEFA Executive Committee moved the cut-off date for yellow cards received by players and staff to after the completion of the round of 16 due to single-leg quarter-finals and Semi-Finals. But this season, it has now revert back to the previous rules.
It means now all the yellow cards will be carried forward to the quarter-finals again.
Fortunately, all yellow cards expire on the completion of the quarter-finals, the pair will be available for the semifinals, if Chelsea progress to the next round.
