Mason Mount has been named as the Chelsea Player of the Season, and it’s a deserving award after a phenomenal 2020-21 season.
Mount took a lot of hit under former boss Frank Lampard, as he was accused of being a favourite of the former Chelsea manager and had the name ‘Lampard’s son’.
Mount would then prove himself under Thomas Tuchel and his game has never been doubted ever since. However, Mount had to work himself into the manager’s plans, as Tuchel benched him for his first game and didn’t seem to like him too much at the time.
Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has hailed Mount as one of the most outstanding young players in the Premier League this season, but he also admitted that the 22-year-old tries to do too much at times.
“Sometimes he’s (Mount) too eager,” the ex-Blues front man told Sky Sports.
“He wants to show too much. Especially at the beginning when Tuchel came in.
“He wanted to really show what he was about. But when you strip his game down, I think he has been one of the best young players, with (Phil) Foden, this year.”
