Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane opted to rest key midfield duo Luka Modric and Toni Kroos for their 2-0 win over Osasuna over the weekend.

According to Zidane, it was important to rest both players ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League game between Chelsea and Real Madrid.

“There are loads of games. Luka and Toni were rested today and that’s very important,” Zidane told reporters. “Antonio Blanco came in and he did really well. He did a good job.

“It was a hard-fought win. I’m pleased for all the players because it’s not easy to do what we’ve been doing in every game. We kept another clean sheet and scored two goals.

“We have to be pleased about that. It was a good win today.”
