Chelsea will face Manchester City in the Champions League final on May 29, and the Blues may be without Edouard Mendy for this fixture.

Mendy hurt himself in the game against Aston Villa as he collided with the goalpost just before half time.

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has claimed that Chelsea may not be able to do without Mendy in the Champions League final, calling him a key part of the Chelsea team.

“He’s been a huge success,” said the former Liverpool striker.

“You would say Chelsea do rely on four or five players that you would not want to be out. He is definitely one of them.”

Speaking after the game against Aston Villa, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel revealed that he was worried about Mendy’s injury.

“He fell on the frame [post] from the goal net when he landed and hurt his ribs,” Tuchel said after Chelsea’s loss to Villa.

“We are worried. We don’t know if it’s an impact injury or it’s more serious. We have to wait for the scans later.”
