Chelsea laboured hard against the Gunners, but it wasn’t to be as a Jorginho mistake in the first half led to Emile Smith-Rowers goal.

See the player ratings below

Kepa: Did his best to keep out Jorginho’s awful back pass and could do nothing about Emile Smith-Rowers goal. Was very solid at the back even though he wasn’t really tested. 6/10

Azpilicueta: Started at the right side of the back three and did well to keep Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang quiet. Had a good game, especially with one moment when he burst forward with the ball that could have led to a goal. 6/10

Thiago Silva: In his usual role in the middle of the back three. Calm and composed at the back. 7/10

Zouma: Found passing out from the back quite difficult as Arsenal always pressured him when on the ball. Solid game but didn’t seem too confident at the start of the game. 6/10

Reece James: Found little space to exploit in the first half, but did better in the second period and was always available on the right side. 6/10

Gilmour: Would be disappointed to have been hauled off at half-time. Had a decent game but didn’t combine well with Jorginho in the first half, as Arsenal looked strong in the middle of the park and in defence. 6/10

Jorginho: His awful back pass to Kepa cost Chelsea the game, as the Blues never scored the goal to start a comeback. His second-half display was very good, but it was to no effect. 5/10

Chilwell: Seemed to be off the pace today. His distribution and positioning at times didn’t seem to please the manager. Didn’t really offer much going forward. 5/10

Mount: Didn’t really have a clear cut chance, as the Arsenal defence never gave any room. Dropped deeper in the second half, and helped distribute play but nothing more. 6/10

Pulisic: Had a goal rightly ruled out for offside, and seemed to have difficulty breaking Arsenal’s defence. 6/10

Havertz: Lacked the composure to score an early goal in the first half after fine work to go through on goal. Found it difficult going past a solid Arsenal defence. 6/10

Hudson-Odoi: Brought a spark after coming in after the break, but his end product wasn’t good. 5/10

Giroud: Looked very rusty as he came on in the second half. Hit a rebound shot across the bar in the second half. 5/10

Ziyech: Tried to play in lots of dangerous balls into the box, but it amounted to nothing. 5/10
