It has been a great year for Chelsea FC, as the men and women’s team have been flying in high colours.
Over the weekend, Chelsea beat Reading 5-0 on the final day of the Women’s Super League season to claim their fourth title, the most a club has ever won in the competition.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich couldn’t be more proud, and according to The Telegraph, Abramovich personally called the women’s team boss Emma Hayes to congratulate her on the league win.
The Russian is very interested in women’s football, and is pleased with how Chelsea have progressed over the years under Emma Hayes.
Not many saw the Chelsea women’s success last season as a real triumph, but the Blues manager Emma Hayes is happy to have silenced her critics.
Reacting after the title victory, Hayes said: “Last season we weren’t the champions in some people’s eyes. But this season the players really wanted to demonstrate we’re the champions.
“There were four teams who could have been in with a shout and it’s gone to the last day which just demonstrates how hard it is.”
