Chelsea Women boss Emma Hayes was in tears as the Blues beat Bayern Munich 4-1 at Kingsmeadow to secure a 5-3 aggregate victory – and a place in the Women’s Champions League final.
“My dreams came true today,” the manager told journalists afterwards.
It’s the first time the Blues would reach the final of the Women’s Champions League. The Blues will face Barcelona, who are also first-time finalist, in the final on May 16.
“I know how good they are,” Hayes said of Barcelona. “I respect them, I respect their model, I think it mirrors us in a lot of ways…I think our journeys have probably been similar. I’m so pleased it’s a different team than Lyon competing for it.
“I’m respecting them immensely but we’re going there to win it.”
