Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen was awarded the Star of the Match following his performance as Denmark defeated Russia 4-1 and secured a place in the Round of 16 of Euro 2020.
With the scores at 2-1, the Chelsea centre-back scored a crucial third goal that killed the Russians’ hopes for a comeback.
After a scramble in the Russian box, the ball fell kindly to Christensen, and he struck a stunner from over 30 yards out that flew through the air and crashed into the back of the net.
The goal sent the stadium into rapturous celebrations, in what was Christensen’s second ever goal for his country.
Explaining how he was able to score the goal, the Chelsea man said: “I don’t think the keeper could see anything because he didn’t really manage to react.
“I was just trying to keep the ball down and it worked so it looks really good! Of course, I’m incredibly happy with the goal and happy that I could contribute to the team’s victory.”
