Manchester United legend Gary Neville has hailed Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount as an unsung hero in England’s victory over Croatia, in their opening Euro 2020 clash.
Gareth Southgate decided to hand Mason Mount a starting role ahead of Jack Grealish in England’s Euro 2020 opener against Croatia on Sunday.
Gary Neville defended Southgate’s decision and revealed that Mount’s place in the team was untouchable.
“Would I play him [Grealish] in front of Mason Mount at the moment? No, because I think Mason Mount connects the team,” Neville told The Overlap.
“I think he is defensively dependable, in terms of what he did getting back in helping (Declan) Rice and Philips in midfield.
“I thought what he did was an unsung job.”
