Liverpool legend Didi Hamann has spoken about two of Chelsea’s players representing Germany in the ongoing European Championship.
Hamann gave glowing report on Kai Havertz who scored the Champions League winning goal for Chelsea, but didn’t speak too highly of Timo Werner.
Hamann believes Kai Havertz will have a key role to play in Germany’s Euro 2020 campaign, and has backed him to be in the starting team for Germany. However, he doesn’t think Werner should be starting for the Germans.
Asked to describe Werner’s first season in the Premier League, Hamann told 101 Great Goals:
“Average. I think his stats are better than a lot of people make out. He has double figures for assists and goals.
“But I think the bad misses stick in people’s minds. I don’t think he is a natural finisher.
“Even though he has won the Champions League I don’t think his confidence is high and for that reason I probably wouldn’t start him. I would go with Havertz and [Thomas] Muller.”
