Chelsea defeated Manchester City 1-0 to win the Champions League final clash in Porto last month to become champions of Europe.
Kai Havertz scored the winning goal, as he scored a comfortable strike in the first half to seal the victory for his side.
Meanwhile, Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan was pleased with Chelsea’s victory as he believes that it would boost his side’s confidence ahead of the European Championship.
Gundogan who won the Premier League with Manchester City, believes that Chelsea’s Champions League success will give confidence to Chelsea’s German trio of Havertz, Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger.
“The Champions League win gives players a boost, gives them confidence,” he told reporters. “Especially Kai, who scored the winner, will have been given a massive boost, which we can use to help us as a team. I’m happy for them, they deserved it.”
On his side’s defeat, Gundogan added: “It’s not easy to stomach a defeat like this. We worked all year to get there – eight years for me. I lost the final again, and I’m extremely gutted about that, but life goes on, that’s the beauty of competitive sport.
“I had a few days off, which I needed I made good use of them. Now I’m focusing on the tasks at hand and I can look forward to the tournament, despite defeat in the final.”
