Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane may be available on a cheap after stalling on signing a new deal with the Los Blancos.

Varane has a year left in his contract, and Madrid could be forced to sell him this summer.

Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with the Frenchman, with United seemingly more interested in the France international.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea and France defender Frank Lebeouf has urged his countryman to shun a move to Old Trafford. According to Lebeouf, Varane should shun a move to United because they are only a club with a past history.

Speaking to ESPN, the former Chelsea ace said, “We know the history of Man United but we are talking about the past.”

On United’s current status in the English game he added, “They finished in second place in the league but I’m not sure it’s a goal for everyone to go to Manchester United now unless they have three or four new signings coming in…so they can challenge Manchester City and Liverpool next season.”
