Mateo Kovacic has been a top player for Chelsea over the past three seasons, and was deservedly named Chelsea’s Player of the Season in the 2019-20 campaign.
The 27-year-old has played for top clubs in Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea, and while he has been highly rated in club level, he hasn’t reached such heights on the international scene.
Kovacic made his international debut in 2013 and has gone on to garner 68 caps.
However, he rarely featured at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, and hardly got a chance at Euro 2016.
Former West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has now backed the Chelsea star to be at his best for Croatia in Euro 2020.
“Everybody rates Kovacic in Croatia but nobody is really happy with how he has played for the national team, including himself,” said Bilic.
“We are still waiting for Kova to have the performances he has had at Chelsea where, before he was injured, he was on top of his game.
“Now everyone believes this is the tournament where he will show his full potential and quality because he has everything.”
