Reece James predominantly featured as a right-back under former boss Frank Lampard, but his role under Thomas Tuchel changed in the second half of the season.
James featured as a right wing-back under Tuchel, but played in some games as a right centre-back.
Many fans weren’t pleased to see James play as a right centre-back in the FA Cup final against Leicester City, but he has revealed that he’s not new to the position.
“I played right-sided centre back many times coming through the academy, so the position wasn’t new to me,” James told talkSPORT.
“The position is much different to wing-back, you can’t really go forward. At wing-back you have the licence to push on and join in on the attacks.
“But the right side of a three you’re kind of limited to where you can go and what you can do.”
