Chelsea legend Ashley Cole has revealed he had to apologise to England midfielder Kevin Phillips following his wonderful performances for England in the Euro 2020 tournament.

Before the tournament, Cole had given a scathing assessment of Phillips and questioned his inclusion in the Three Lions team.

But after England’s win over Denmark, the former Chelsea and England left-back revealed that he approached the Leeds United star to say sorry.

“It’s emotional,” Cole told ITV.

“I’ll say it live on air, I had to get Kalvin Phillips here and say to him, ‘you know what… big respect’.

“I think he’s been tremendous in this tournament, he’s been so solid and integral in this England team.

“For me that was my little ‘sorry’.”
