Under Frank Lampard, Chelsea were strongly linked with a move for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, and Lampard believed that the Englishman was the missing piece in the star-studded Chelsea squad he was building.

Chelsea weren’t too keen on splashing £80m on another signing at the time, having spent over £200m on transfers last summer.

Surprisingly, Chelsea are still being linked with Rice even under current manager Thomas Tuchel. But this time, Chelsea’s rivals are also being linked with the midfielder who showed his class in the Euro 2020 tournament.

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has hailed the quality of Rice and praised his performance in Euro 2020. However, Parlour has also urged him to stay at least another season with the Hammers before seeking a move.

“He was probably one of England’s best midfielders in the final,” Parlour told talkSPORT when asked about rumours that Rice will sign a new contract.

“He’s a great player. I’m sure they will come to an agreement where he signs a new contract and that secures West Ham as well.

“So West Ham now will get top money for him if he does move on, a little bit like Jack Grealish when he signed a big five-year contract.

“Aston Villa know someone will have to pay big money now for Jack and Declan will be the same.”

He added: “I think it’s down to the player and I’m sure there will be a lot of takers for Declan Rice after the Euros he’s had as well.

“But I think one more season at West Ham wouldn’t do him no [harm], skipper as well. That’s a big thing for him.”
