According to reports, Chelsea youngster Dynel Simeu is set to complete a free transfer to Southampton.
Reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that the young Chelsea centre-back has rejected a new contract with the Blues in favour of joining the Saints on a free transfer.
As compensation, Chelsea will receive a fee of £1.5million from the Saints despite Simeu’s contract with the Blues expiring at the end of June.
Simeu was unable to feature for the Chelsea first team but featured in 19 appearances for the club’s under-23 side last season.
Going to Southampton could be a sort of dream come true for Simeu who was born in Cameroon but grew up in Southampton.
He told Chelsea’s media team in an interview earlier last year: “I came from a Sunday league team in Southampton and with my background I didn’t know many footballers and didn’t even know how Chelsea Academy worked, I thought playing here was unrealistic.
“I admired Portsmouth and Southampton because that’s all I knew, I always dreamed of becoming a footballer but my family and I never thought it was realistic, then when I got the chance everything happened quickly and it was unbelievable.”
