Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri played in the semi-final and final of the Euro 2020, as he helped the Italians beat England in the final to become champions of Europe.
Emerson had limited play time for Chelsea last season under Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel, as he was behind Ben Chilwell in the left-back or left wing-back role.
A number of Italian clubs have been linked with the Italy international over a possible return to the Serie A, and Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti has admitted that he has spoken to the Chelsea star over a move.
Spalletti was quizzed by Italy’s media at his first press conference as Napoli boss and he was asked about the possibility of snapping up his former player Emerson, and the Italian hinted that he ‘might’ have spoken to Palmieri.
“That is a question I cannot answer, but it’s possible that might’ve happened,” said the 62-year-old.
Meanwhile, Emerson won’t be short of suitors following his performance for Italy in the Euro 2020 tournament. Chelsea will be looking to make at least £25m in a summer sale for the Euro 2020 winner.
