A few months ago, Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante was among the names tipped to win the Ballon d’Or following his extraordinary performance for Chelsea as the Blues won the Champions League.

However, the Frenchman hasn’t been mentioned again, since France round of 16 exit from the Euros. Instead, it’s another Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, who has been dominant in the news regarding the Ballon d’Or award.

Jorginho played a key role in helping Chelsea win the Champions League and was a maestro in the middle of the park as Italy went ahead to win the Euro 2020.

Former England striker Dean Ashton has explained why Jorginho deserves a shout to win the Ballon d’Or award.

“N’Golo Kante was definitely on the list before Euro 2020,” Ashton said to TalkSport. “Jorginho should be as well.

“Whether the people who are deciding it look in as much depth as you need to just understand how good Jorginho is, how important he is to Chelsea, how important he is to Italy, that’s just another thing.”

“If you look in depth at Jorginho, he is so important,” Ashton added.

“What he does for the side, both defensively and offensively, is so vital to Chelsea and Italy lifting trophies.”
