Everyone who had followed the development of Callum Hudson-Odoi will know that the young winger is nowhere close to his best.
Having burst onto the scene as a teenager in 2018, the then 17-year-old was the delight of Blues fans. In his cameo appearances, he seemed to be better than the players who were on the pitch and had to force himself into the plans of Maurizio Sarri at the time.
An Achilles tendon injury in April 2019 has since derailed the winger and he had never really reached that height that earned him a national team call-up and also made Bayern Munich place a bid of £35m for an unproven teenager.
Now 20, Hudson-Odoi has been in and out of the first team, and is yet to rediscover his best form.
However, a report by The Athletic claims that Hudson-Odoi is buzzing in training and sources have told them that he is in the ‘best physical shape’ since he broke into the senior squad three years ago.
They also suggest the 20-year-old is ‘looking very sharp and showing explosive speed to take on opposing defenders.’ This used to be the bane of Hudson-Odoi’s game — that natural ability to take on players and beat them with pace.
As we reported during the holidays, Hudson-Odoi stepped up his personal training while he was on break, and it seems to have paid dividends.
