Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has given Chelsea a huge boost in the race for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland after claiming the Premier League champions won’t sign a striker this summer.
Manchester City have been linked with moves for Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, both transfer targets for Chelsea, but Guardiola has now cast doubt on City signing a striker this summer.
“At the prices (quoted) we are not going to buy any strikers. It is impossible, we cannot afford it,” Guardiola said as quoted by The Athletic.
“All clubs are struggling financially, we are not an exception. We have Gabriel (Jesus) and Ferran (Torres) who have been incredible in this position.
“We have young players in the academy and we play many times with a false nine. There is more of a chance we aren’t going to buy a striker for next season.”
