New Roma boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that Italy international Leonardo Spinazzola’s injury is a big blow to the Italian national team and also to his Roma team ahead of next season.

Spinazzola could be out for up to five months, and he has been a key figure for the Italian team and one of the stars of the Euro 2020.

Mourinho however admitted that Chelsea star Emerson Palmieri is an “experienced” backup for Spinazzola even though he insists that the defender’s injury will come as a big blow.

“Awful for them [Italy], imagine for me,” Mourinho told talkSPORT about Spinazzola’s injury blow.

“But thinking about the Euro, I think they [Italy] lose a very important player.

“Emerson is playing now. Of course, he didn’t play much at Chelsea, but he’s a good player, an experienced player.”

Meanwhile, Mourinho also praised the other Chelsea player in the Italian team, Jorginho, as he said: “He gives stability to the team.”
