The 2020-21 season was a decent one for Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, and while we saw decent spells from the academy product, long-time followers of the 20-year-old will know that he is yet to reach his best heights.
Hudson-Odoi made 37 appearances across all competitions last term, registering five goals and as many assists, but only 19 of those games were as starters.
Last summer’s splash on Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech saw Hudson-Odoi get reduced play time. However, under Thomas Tuchel he became an instant regular upon his appointment.
Tuchel started Hudson-Odoi in an unfamiliar right wing-back role before reverting back to Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James after a while.
The 20-year-old was one of the first to return to camp for pre-season training, and Tuchel believes that the early preparation will help the young winger. Tuchel was caught on camera saying it’s time for Hudson-Odoi to come out of his shell.
“This is very good for Callum Hudson-Odoi,” the German said. “No more hiding, hiding is over.”
The ‘no more hiding’ message could be seen as a target for Hudson-Odoi to use this pre-season to emerge from the shadows and establish himself in Tuchel’s team.
