There couldn’t have been a more difficult start to the new season for Chelsea as the Blues play Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup on 11 August, before kickstarting their Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace.
Chelsea’s 2021-22 Premier League season will start with six straight games against Palace, Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Manchester City.
Surely, Thomas Tuchel must get his side ready for the new season as the new season’s pressure will start from the get-go.
Meanwhile, football pundit Paul Merson has revealed that he is worried for Chelsea ahead of the new campaign.
Paul Merson believes that the absence of Jorginho and Mason Mount to Chelsea’s start to the campaign could have a negative impact on the team’s performance, with both players expected to be on holidays until early next month.
“Chelsea are facing a nightmare start to the new season and their first six games are already make or break,” Merson wrote for the Daily Star.
“They have tough fixtures and it’s made even worse because so many of their players won’t be back from the Euros in time to be fully fit to play in them.
“Good luck to any team having to do without key men like Jorginho and Mason Mount for too long.
“Those two went further than most at the Euros as England and Italy both reached the final – and they’re two of Chelsea’s most important players.”
