FC Barcelona do not want to lose star man Lionel Messi, and the Bluagrana have ensured they do everything possible to keep the Argentine whose contract ended last month.

Barcelona are currently experiencing financial crisis and are seeking for alternatives to help finance their bid to keep Messi.

Spanish media outlet Sport via Daily Express claim Barcelona are open to selling Antoine Griezmann this summer to free up funds for Lionel Messi’s new contract.

By offloading Griezmann, Barcelona stand to have around €12m (£10.2m) per season reduced from their wage bill.

According to reports, Barca have reached a verbal agreement with Lionel Messi over a new contract that will keep him at the Camp Nou until 2026. Messi has also agreed to take a pay cut in order to remain at Barcelona.

However, Chelsea aren’t keen on signing up Griezmann. The Daily Star reports that Chelsea were offered the opportunity to sign the French forward this summer and even held talks with the player’s representatives.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United were offered the opportunity to sign Griezmann, but the Blues have opted against the deal and would rather keep the funds in the pursuit of Erling Haaland who could cost up to £100m.
