The holiday season is gradually ending for the players, with pre-season games set to kick off this weekend ahead of league football resuming next month.

As at Monday, 28 Chelsea players had returned to camp, with loan players, academy graduates mixing up with the available players from last season to start the pre-season.

The likes of wantaway players who are yet to leave the club such as Davide Zappacosta, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater, have returned for pre-season.

Academy graduates Charly Musonda and Dujon Sterling, who overcame serious injuries and illness over the past 18 months, were also involved while young goalkeeper Lucas Bergstrom was included in the squad.

Last season’s stars who didn’t participate in any international competition such as Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Marcos Alonso Callum Hudson-Odoi, Tammy Abraham, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy – and returning loanees, including Marc Guehi, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja were part of the team.

Thomas Tuchel will be keen on another successful season with Chelsea after last season’s Champions League success, and his message to the team was a brief one centred on focus, as he led out for a very light session.

“Let’s still try when we are on the pitch out here,” Tuchel said. “Try to focus, try to enjoy it, try to be positive because this is what we need. So welcome on the pitch and let’s go. Shall we start? Vamos.”

Meanwhile, Mason Mount, Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Jorginho, Emerson and Thiago Silva will return early next month, having reached the finals of the European Championship and Copa America respectively.
