Chelsea played host to Tottenham in the Mind Series pre-season fixture on Wednesday night, and the night couldn’t have started any better as the Blues fans got to see the Champions League trophy for the first time since the victory in May.
The Champions League trophy we won in May was paraded around the pitch for the first time by Cesar Azpilicueta and the rest of the Chelsea squad much to the cheers and jubilation of the Chelsea faithful present at the Bridge.
They received a standing ovation from the Blues supporters packed in the stadium, and there was as well a 250-strong cohort of NHS staff welcomed to the game by the club to thank them for their tireless work done during the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the game proper, Chelsea played a 2-2 draw with Spurs, with Hakim Ziyech scoring a brace to put Chelsea in front, but goals from Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn in the second half cancelled out Chelsea’s lead.
Chelsea will now have the Super Cup to focus on, with Chelsea and Villarreal facing each other on August 11, before our league opener on August 14 against Crystal Palace.
