According to The Telegraph via Metro, Chelsea are leading Premier League rivals Manchester United in the race for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
The midfielder, who has a release clause of around £128million, is keen on leaving the Spanish side this summer.
Chelsea have entered negotiations with Atletico Madrid over the transfer of Saul and are offering to initially loan Saul with an option to sign the Atletico Madrid star permanently.
The Blues reportedly view Saul as a player who can provide competition for Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho but the deal depends on Chelsea’s ability to offload Ross Barkley, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater.
Atletico are reportedly open to letting Saul leave the club on loan for the season and include an option to buy as part of the deal.
