Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has admitted his surprise at Thomas Tuchel’s tactics upon his arrival at Chelsea.
The German was appointed in January to replace Frank Lampard as Chelsea manager, and became an instant hit, with results improving instantly as he led Chelsea to win the Champions League.
Speaking to the Guardian, Lukaku admitted how impressed he’d been by Tuchel’s methods last year.
According to the former Inter Milan striker, he tried to understand Thomas Tuchel’s 3-4-2-1 formation while watching as an Inter Milan player, but couldn’t get a grip on it as the Chelsea boss seemed to make changes in each game.
“Every game there is a different plan,” said the centre-forward.
“That’s something that I told him in the first conversation I had with him.
“I said: ‘Look, I try to figure out what you try and do with the team but I never figured it out because every game was different.’
“That’s what I like because I look at the game from a tactical point of view. I don’t really look at the game just to watch.”
