According to Football London, Jules Kounde is prepared to stay at Sevilla if a move to Chelsea fails to materialise.
The 22-year-old defender, who has just under three years remaining on his contract with the La Liga club, has reportedly agreed personal terms with Chelsea but won’t push for a transfer if Sevilla and Chelsea fail to reach an agreement.
Kounde is said to have a £68million release clause in his deal with the La Liga outfit, but Chelsea are keen on trying to drive Sevilla’s asking price down.
Sevilla aren’t willing to sell the France international, which means Chelsea must activate Kounde’s release clause to sign the Frenchman.
Meanwhile, Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui expects the defender to shun a move to Chelsea and remain with Sevilla.
He said: “I don’t have the feeling that this is his last game [a recent 3-0 win against Rayo Vallecano]. There is nothing that tells me that he will not continue with us.
“He played a very good game. Things can happen until 31st August. We need to strengthen positions and we are working on it.”
