The Chelsea bid for Jules Kounde has been a surprise one, as no one expected that the deal will take until transfer deadline day to be completed.
According to reports, Chelsea had a verbal agreement with Sevilla to sign Kounde but the Spanish side suddenly raised their asking price by €15m (£13m).
The Blues are believed to be unhappy with Sevilla’s decision to increase their asking price for Kounde and won’t give in to Sevilla’s demands.
However, a deal could still happen this summer if Sevilla consent to selling Kounde for the previously agreed fee, believed to be around €50–€55m.
Negotiations are believed to be ongoing, and according to Spain’s ABC report that Monchi has set a deadline far earlier than the usual midnight cut-off.
The Sevilla sporting director will only give Chelsea until 1pm Spanish time – midday in the UK – in order to submit their final proposal for Kounde.
The ABC report that anything beyond today will not give Sevilla enough time to sign a replacement. As for Kounde, the 22-year-old is said to be ‘nervously glued to the phone’ waiting to hear of anything positive about the deal.
Kounde wants a move to Chelsea this summer, but Chelsea may be willing to wait until January if Sevilla continue to play hardball.
