Ruben Loftus-Cheek has surprised everyone in the few games he has played this season.

Now 25, Loftus-Cheek’s career so far has been a case of ‘what if’. Chelsea fans can only ponder what if he didn’t have that injury in 2019 that saw him miss action for a year.

Blues fans had always known the potential of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but his history with injuries has never really allowed him reach anything close to his potential.

While on loan at Fulham last season, he couldn’t shine beyond a limit with the side bottom of the league. Former boss Frank Lampard has some expectations from him having known him from his playing career and seeing the talent he has always had. But for Tuchel, nothing was given — Loftus-Cheek had to do something special to get the attention of the boss.

Indeed, Loftus-Cheek’s performance in the League Cup game against Aston Villa was special as he was the best player on the pitch. He was again given a cameo appearance against Manchester City over the weekend, and he looked the only Chelsea player capable of causing threat despite being played in a deeper role.

Chelsea fans took to social media to admit that they were pleased with what they saw from Ruben against City.

See some comments from fans on twitter:

Baisabeast: “Get him starting. So much upside and so much potential yet to be realised with RLC.”

Tallfranklamp8: “I would be absolutely over the moon if Ruben became a regular starter again. Absolutely immense and unique talent and just a joy to watch.”

Duckinator09: “Finally the RLC of the past. He was brave in challenges. I’m ready for the RLC show.

“I feel like a proud dad. Been always hopeful that the old rlc will return. Among all our academy graduates, I think he has the greatest talent. I actually feel excited despite the loss today.”

Cheaky_Barstool: “Only highlight from today. couldn’t be touched.”

Loftus-Cheek can indeed be a new signing for Chelsea this season, and what he offers is different. Like one fan rightly puts it, he’s a combination of Mikel Obi and Yaya Toure. More so, it’s the determination on his face this time that has shown what’s in his heart.
