Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was disappointed in the manner his side played against Manchester City last weekend. Pep Guardiola’s side totally bossed Chelsea in both halves and got a deserved 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel was aiming for a comeback in the Champions League clash against Juventus and was hoping that his side will get a response. But it wasn’t so, as Juventus employed a defensive approach to block out Chelsea’s forward players.

Tuchel named a front three of Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Romelu Lukaku, and opted for Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta as his fullbacks.

Chelsea fans weren’t pleased with the selection ahead of the game as they questioned the lack of pace in the team.

Explaining the reason for his team selection, Tuchel said before the game: “Of course, we can play better, we want to play better – the next possibility to bounce back is a big one, it’s Champions League and Juventus, so it’s a great opportunity,” he told BT Sport pre-match.

He also explained the decision to start Havertz and Ziyech, as he said: “Yes, of course, they will always come [in] because we have a good squad but not the deepest squad in terms of numbers so it’s clear we need everybody.

“We have a lot of competitions to play, a lot of competitions where we want to compete on a high level, so yeah it’s exactly like this. We have five changes, it’s good to know and good to have.”
