Former Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson has hailed Romelu Lukaku’s start to life at Chelsea.

The 28-year-old made his Chelsea debut for the second time in a 2-0 victory over Arsenal, and he bullied the Arsenal defence in that game.

Lukaku also did well in his game against Liverpool, as Chelsea fought hard to get a point at Anfield with a man down.

Glen Johnson has likened Lukaku to former Blues striker Olivier Giroud, and believes Giroud was the better striker for Chelsea last season but was often overlooked by the manager. He further went on to say that Lukaku is an even better striker than Giroud.

Speaking in an interview with, Johnson said of Lukaku: “He’s hit the ground running hasn’t he?

“He’s banged in a couple, he looks the part and seems as if he’s a totally different player to the one that was there the first time. I think he’s proving to be a good signing for them.

“I always believed that Chelsea overlooked Olivier Giroud and they played better with him in the side, but Lukaku is a younger, fitter, stronger version of him.

“I think Lukaku suits their style of play and I think he’ll have a good season.”
