Romelu Lukaku has started his Chelsea career with a bang, as he has scored four goals in four matches.
Despite his form for the club, former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley believes that the Blues would be better of with Tottenham striker Harry Kane than the £97.5m man from Inter Milan.
Burley has said that Kane is a better striker and Chelsea only went for Lukaku because they couldn’t meet Daniel Levy’s extravagant valuation of the England captain.
“Chelsea apparently had some sort of discussions with Kane’s representatives, and possibly with Tottenham,” the former Blue told ESPN FC.
“Ultimately, I think Chelsea would have taken Harry Kane if the money had been right. I don’t think there is a doubt about that.
“[But] I don’t think they could meet the valuation that Daniel Levy set — like Manchester City, so they went for the other target, which is Romelu Lukaku.
“But in my opinion, Kane still would have been above Lukaku as a striker.”
We tend to disagree with Burley. Chelsea signed up the best striker that’s suited to the club and has the passion and desire to play for the club. Burley should watch out for who will end up as the league’s top scorer.
