Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel picked Saul Niguez in his starting XI against Aston Villa following his deadline day transfer from Atletico Madrid, and it was a decision that the Blues boss regretted and rectified it by taking off the Spaniard at half-time.
Saul left Blues fans at the edge of their seats as he couldn’t cope with the pressing from the Villa side. He made many errors that could have led to a Villa goal, as Thiago Silva and Edouard Mendy spared his blushes.
Chelsea fans were indeed worried about the performance of the 26-year-old and took to social media to express their displeasure.
Despite his poor performance, Saul remained confident and took to social media to hail the team’s victory.
“Wasn’t the expected debut,” Saul wrote on Instagram.
“Really happy with my first game and victory with the team. Incredible to see Stamford Bridge full of Blues.”
